Study of dam flood regulation planning
To more effectively use existing dams, the introduction of flood regulation operation according to the state of river improvement and changes in land use downstream from the dam, is being studied.
In this case, if the reservoir flood regulation capacity is identical, it is necessary to modify the flood regulation method to improve its effectiveness.
The major challenges to be studied are the selection of a flood of appropriate scale or studying and evaluating regulation methods adapted to the state of improvement of the downstream area. The Japan Dam Engineering Center carries out studies incorporating the improvement or new construction of discharge systems, and discharge operations for floods exceeding the target scale of flood.
