Artificial abutment
The Japan Dam Engineering Center has developed artificial abutment work that safely reduces the large amount of foundation excavation work and cut slope area by installing artificial bed rock made of a large concrete structure on the slope of the abutment of dam.
The artificial abutment works forms a large artificial bed rock, substantially reducing the construction costs and environmental load, greatly reducing the foundation excavation, dam body volume and the cut slope area. The work has been used at several dams such as the Nishinotani Dam and the Inaba Dam.
