The Japan Dam Engineering Center continually performs objective evaluations of dam safety and the appropriateness of dam management of water utilization dams operated by electric power companies based on field surveys and observation data. The JDEC also performs the emergency evaluation of dam safety after large-scale earthquakes and provides technical guidance/advice concerning observation data analysis and evaluation methods, setting methods of standard measured values, and standards for deciding to repair aged dams.

To achieve more appropriate dam management in the future, and to evaluate safety, the JDEC performs strict and appropriate evaluations, organizing study committees consisting of dam experts.
